DRIVING SKILLS AND ROAD TESTING
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
All test applicants are responsible for reviewing the “Driving Skills Test Study Guide.”
WHAT TO BRING TO THE TEST
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
1. A valid permit or Level I License
2. A valid insurance certificate
3. A valid vehicle registration
4. A vehicle that meets the test safety inspection

UNDER 18 CHECKLIST
TO TAKE A TEST YOU MUST HAVE:
- Completed Segment 1 Driver Education Classes
- Obtain a level 1 license for 180 days
- Completed Segment 2 Drivers Education Classes (White Certificate)
- 50 hours of Behind-the-Wheel driving experience
- Parent must accompany teen under 18 years of age
- An operable vehicle in working condition
- Current registration and proof of insurance (CHECK EXPIRATION DATE OF INSURANCE CERTIFICATE)
OVER 18 CHECKLIST
TO TAKE A TEST YOU MUST HAVE:
- Hold a Michigan Temporary Instruction Permit for at least 30 days (waivers by Secretary of State allowed and written on permit)
- An operable vehicle in working condition
- Current registration and proof of insurance (CHECK EXPIRATION DATE OF INSURANCE CERTIFICATE)
MOTORCYLE CHECKLIST
TO TAKE A TEST YOU MUST HAVE:
- Temporary motorcycle permit
- Current registration and proof of insurance (CHECK EXPIRATION DATE OF INSURANCE CERTIFICATE)
- Helmet
